Fergus Garrett
Sunday 22 February
Benenden Village Hall, 2.30pm map
Members’ lecture meeting. Guests are welcome to attend up to two meetings before becoming members.
Fergus Garrett will require little or no introduction to HPS members. As Head Gardener at Great Dixter in East Sussex, he worked for 15 years with iconoclastic master plantsman and gardener Christopher Lloyd until ‘Christo’s’ death in 2006, first merely carrying out instructions, but later as a full partner in the adventurousness and experimentation that came to characterise Great Dixter. Fergus is now charged with developing and maintaining the garden while keeping Christo’s innovative spirit alive.
Great Dixter is renowned, amongst other things, for its successional planting, The Long Border in particular being recognised as a masterpiece. Fergus will take us through the seasons, revealing the secrets of its success.
As usual at our lecture meetings there will also be:
Plant display - Plant sale - Seed exchange - Book sale - Raffle - Teas
Theme for this month’s plant display - snowdrops and hellebores
.
