Special Spring Meeting
Lenham Community Centre
Lenham, near Maidstone ME17 2QT
Sunday 29 March 2015, from 11.30am
Our very popular Spring Meeting combines an indoor plant fair and photographic competition with our usual lecture meeting.
Indoor Plant Fair 11.30am to 2pm The Plant Fair is open to the public with an admission of £2.
There will be a tempting selection of plants for sale from local nurseries throughout the morning. They will be joined this year by Bob Brown, who will be selling plants from his nursery, Cotswold Garden Flowers. Full details, including a list of nurseries attending, here.
Many of our members have cameras and enjoy using them to take photographs of the gardens they visit and the plants they like as well as some more unusual and amusing subjects. In this exhibition you can see the results of their efforts. It is a very friendly competition so do please bring some photos and join in.
‘Payback’ a talk by Bob Brown at 2.30pm Members’ lecture meeting. Guests are welcome to attend up to two meetings before becoming members.
Bob Brown, renowned nurseryman, plantsman, speaker and garden writer, is acknowledged as an entertaining and down-to-earth speaker, guaranteed to inspire any gardener. His talk, ‘Payback’, is about getting the reward for the effort you put in. It might be a plant that looks after itself, refuses to die or wilt and still flowers for a couple of months, or it might be a plant that is slightly more trouble and flowers for 11 months, a theme to hang some cut fresh material on. His specialist nursery based in Evesham stocks a huge range of unusual perennials with the aim of offering both good old-fashioned and newly introduced plants, bred for form and vigour, plus plants newly introduced from the wild.
Refreshments include teas and coffee in the morning, followed by homemade soup and rolls at lunchtime – the parsnip and ginger soup was especially popular last year. And, of course, we have tea and homemade cake after the talk, to finish what we hope will be a very successful day.
We look forward to seeing you there.
As usual at our lecture meetings there will also be: Plant display – Seed exchange – Book sale – Raffle
