With a talk at 12 noon ‘Winter and Spring Bulbs’ by Rod Leeds.

We are pleased to be involved in staging another Snowdrop and Hellebore Extravaganza at Goodnestone this coming February. Last year the event was a great success and well supported so we are hoping for the same in 2012. Goodnestone always looks extremely striking at this time of the year with carpets of snowdrops, drifts of hellebores and beautiful sweet smelling daphnes. As usual we will have a good selection of nurseries providing an excellent opportunity to shake off the winter blues by buying plants to kickstart the gardening year. Full details of the Plant Fair here.

In the past we have always managed a wonderful display of winter shrubs and early flowering bulbs and plants, showing the interest and colour in our gardens in the depths of winter. If you have anything in flower or you think would be of interest, please bring it to share with members and visitors. But, in any event, just come along and enjoy the first event of the new year. (Note that members bringing display material before 10.30am will be admitted free).

To add extra interest to the day, Rod Leeds will be giving a talk in the custom-built lecture theatre on ‘Winter and Spring Bulbs’. Rod is probably already well known through his involvement with the Alpine Garden Society and also with the RHS Joint Rock Garden Plant Committee. He lectures widely on gardening topics, calling on his practical experiences. He is a regular contributor to The Plantsman and other specialist plant journals. He lives in Suffolk where his half-acre plantsman’s garden provides ample opportunity to showcase his unique collection of bulbs. In his capacity as a committed galanthophile, he has agreed to bring some of the rarer snowdrops to sell during the day, which is an added bonus.

Seating is limited and available by ticket only, at no extra charge, from the HPS plant sales table.

Refreshments will be available throughout the day.
