Julian started out as an academic botanist before turning gardener and nurseryman. He and his wife run Desirable Plants, a Devon wholesale nursery specialising in unusual herbaceous perennials and South African Iridaceae.
Julian last spoke to us at the Goodnestone Park meeting in February 2016 when he gave a very well-received talk on hellebores. The title of his talk this time will be ‘The Botanical Gardener’ describing the pleasure to be had from learning botanical names.

As usual at our lecture meetings there will also be:      Plant display – Plant sale – Seed exchange – Book sale – Raffle – Teas

I found this beautiful image of members of the Asteraceae family online and thought it would make an ideal introduction to our September meeting. It is by Alvesgaspar and is licensed under CC-BY-SA-3.0
