Like Goodnestone, Squerryes Court, a beautiful 17th Century manor house, has been in the same family for over three centuries. It is surrounded by 20 acres of historic gardens, which include a lake, restored parterres and an 18th Century dovecote. Elaborate formal gardens were planted by the Earl of Jersey in 1709 but greatly altered in the 18th Century, as was the lake.

Following the 1987 hurricane, the opportunity was taken to replant hedges, avenues and parterres in the original style. Restoration is ongoing, the latest project being woodland walks in the wild garden.
