The gardens at Goodnestone Park are the creation of the FitzWalter family, who have lived there since it was built in 1704.
In recent years the late Lord FitzWalter and his wife undertook a huge programme of restoration and development, returning the trio of interlinking walled gardens to their former glory, clearing and extending the woodland garden, now renowned for its snowdrops and hellebores in early spring, planting an arboretum, replanting a lime avenue and recreating a formal parterre in celebration of the Millennium. A gravel garden was added in 2003.The most recent innovations in this ongoing project are a new plant nursery and lecture room. In addition, Goodnestone is home to a number of beautiful, and in some cases very rare, trees.
