‘Fabulous Foliage – A Foil for Flowers’ by Andrew Ward
Andrew Ward runs Norwell Nurseries and Gardens near Newark in Nottinghamshire. He specialises in choice and unusual herbaceous perennials, and his one-acre garden includes more than 2,500 different plants, many unusual and uncommon. The gardens have been featured in the Great Gardens Guide, Country Life and many other publications; Andrew came to talk to our Group a few years ago, and has also given talks to other HPS groups and the national HPS AGM.
Foliage is valuable in even the most floriferous of gardens, and his talk will look at the role and worth of various leaves and leaf effects in complementing flowers.
We’ll keep you supplied with refreshments throughout the day. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served during the morning, followed by a variety of homemade soup and rolls at lunchtime. And, of course, we have tea and homemade cake after the talk, to finish what we hope will be a very successful day.
Members contribute to a friendly photographic competition. There are classes for every aspect of plant photography – detailed close-up, single plants or several in attractive association, garden views or an amusing take on life in the garden.
It’s a fun way to share your plant pictures so do please bring some photos and join in.
In past years we have had amazing displays of plants from members’ gardens. It would be wonderful if we could repeat it again this year – some plants will be the same but there are bound to be others that, because of variation in weather conditions, will be at their peak at the time of our meeting.
So please look round your garden and see if there is something you could bring to share with your fellow members and our visitors.
come and join us on sunday 24 march
make a day of it!
