Indoor Plant Fair 11am to 2pm

The Plant Fair is open to the public with an admission of £1

There will be a tempting selection of plants for sale from local nurseries to suit every taste and pocket. You can browse the stalls in the comfort of a warm hall, chat to the nurserymen who have grown the plants and find out how to grow them in your garden. You’ll be sure to go home with  some treasures that will bring colour and interest to your garden and pleasure for years to come.    Full details here.

Photographic Show

Many of our members have cameras and enjoy using them to take photographs of the gardens they visit and the plants they like, as well as some more unusual and amusing subjects. In this exhibition you can see the results of their efforts. It is a very friendly competition so do please bring some photos and join in.

There are classes for all aspects of plant photography. You can see the award winners from last year here.

Talk at 2.30pm

‘Exotic Gardening’ by Fergus Garrett

Fergus Garrett is renowned worldwide as Head Gardener at Great Dixter, a post he has held since 1993. He is also CEO of The Great Dixter Charitable Trust. Raised in this country and in Turkey, he studied horticulture at Wye College, graduating in 1989. In 2008 he was awarded the RHS Associate of Honour and, in 2015, the Veitch Memorial Medal to add to many other accolades.

Fergus’s hobbies and interests include looking at plants and plant communities in the wild, geology and rocks, baskets, the sea and fish, cooking, boxing, Turkey and anything Turkish, rural crafts and nice people!

He oversees the wonderful garden at Great Dixter, which seems to go from strength to strength whilst still maintaining a link back to Christopher Lloyd. That link is seen strongly in the Exotic Garden, which they made and planted up every year together. Each year more and more unusual plants are added to the mix and we are looking forward to hearing all about the garden and some of the wonderful plants he grows there.

This is a rare opportunity and not to be missed!

Plant Display

It would be wonderful if we could have a really good plant display for this special meeting so please look round your garden and see if there is something you could bring to share with your fellow members and our visitors. It is such a feature of our meetings – let’s see if we can make it one to remember.

Refreshments

Last, but by no means least, we’ll keep you supplied with refreshments throughout the day. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served during the morning, followed by a variety of homemade soup and rolls at lunchtime. And, of course, we have tea and homemade cake after the talk, to finish what we hope will be a very successful day.

Not a member? No problem!

We’d love to see you at the plant fair and you’d be welcome to stay, have some lunch and join us for the talk in the afternoon. If you like plants as much as we do you won’t want to miss hearing about some of the fabulous ones grown at Great Dixter.

Make a day of it!
