- Orchids and other Western Australian plants
Irene Palmer
Sunday 25 January
Lower Hardres Village Hall 2.30pm map
Members’ lecture meeting. Guests are welcome to attend up to two meetings before becoming members.
John and Irene Palmer specialize in plant and landscape photography: their photographs have been published in over 100 countries. They are Honorary Wardens of Downe Bank, a small nature reserve owned by the Kent Wildlife Trust. Just half a mile from his former home at Down House, it was named ‘Orchis Bank’ by Charles Darwin and is where he carried out important studies of wild orchids and other native wild flowers.
Perhaps inevitably, in the light of their experience, John and Irene were drawn to Western Australia and its great diversity of wild flowers, especially its many terrestrial orchids, including the exquisite Queen of Sheba.
As usual at our lecture meetings there will also be:
Plant display – Plant sale – Seed exchange – Book sale – Raffle – Teas
Theme for this month’s plant display – Winter gems
