We have heard that Gwladys Tonge, a very long-standing member of the The Hardy Plant Society, has died at the age of 97. She was a former Chairman of the Society and a Vice-President, and will be known to our long-standing members as she was the speaker at Kent Group’s very first meeting on 20 March 1988, when she talked about hardy plants in a very small garden, illustrating with slides how she transformed her own tiny, unpromising site into a very beautiful garden brimming with exciting hardy plants. She sent us on our way. Her contribution, and that of the many others who have shared their knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm, means that we are still going strong thirty years later.
There will be an obituary in the spring issue of the Journal.
