Garden Visit – 12 Woods Ley, Ash
12 Woods Ley, Ash
Wednesday 4 September 2019, 2.30pm
This event is for members only and must be pre-booked.
This is the private garden of Philip Oostenbrink, Head Gardener of Canterbury Cathedral, who gave us a fascinating tour of the cathedral gardens two years ago. It is planted in a tropical style, filled with colourful flowers and unusual foliage. The front garden instantly sets the scene, with many tropical plants, and includes unusual salvia, canna, hedychium and miscanthus. The side garden has an array of ferns and unusual shrubs, giving more of a jungle effect, while the back garden is full of plants such as bamboos, more canna and hedychium, and a selection of the National Collections of Hakonechloa macra and Ophiopogon japonicus. A pot display of shade-loving plants can be found on the patio, and indoors there is the National Collection of Aspidistra elatior. The garden was featured on Gardeners’ World on May 17th.
There will be a charge of £5 for this visit to include refreshments.
There is a booking form in the Summer 2019 Newsletter.
