Henfield, West Sussex
Saturday 25 September 2010

This event is for members only and must be pre-booked.

A small group of members visited Sussex Prairies last year and so enjoyed it that they recommended that we arrange another visit.

To give you an idea of what we might expect I can do no better than quote from the invitation from Paul and Pauline McBride.
Sussex Prairies invites you to our Dream Garden

“Imagine the beauty of walking through a field of towering plants, their muted colours showing layer upon layer of texture with infinite variety of flower, leaf, stem and stalk…… that dream starts at Sussex Prairies!
The six-acre prairie garden is cradled within the heart of our small farm, embraced by breathtaking oak trees and verdant grasslands, lying quietly in view of the South Downs and Chanctonbury Ring.
Sussex Prairies is our long held dream project and we bring our own interpretation to perennial planting. The realisation of over ten years planning, we’ve created a series of interlinked arced open borders which you can walk right into and explore! A true combination of intrigue and seduction set against the sweeping curves of the larger borders. Planted with over 32,000 plants, we have at least 550 different plant varieties on show which complement and are sympathetic to the natural landscape of rural Sussex.”

We will have an introductory talk on arrival followed by a guided tour.

There will be a small selection of plants and cut flowers for sale so we can take a part of the prairie home with us! Anyone interested in rare breeds will be able to see some Shetland sheep and pigs.
