With a talk ‘Snowdrops – in the right place at the right time’ by Val Bourne at 12 noon.
As usual we will be holding this event at Goodnestone Park at the kind invitation of Lady Fitzwalter. We are pleased to welcome Val Bourne who will speak on ‘Snowdrops – in the right place at the right time’. A true galanthophile for 20 years, Val has been very fortunate to have been in the right place at the right time quite by accident. She will take us on a journey to learn about the people, her amusing experiences and the snowdrops she loves.
Very recently Val has been awarded Journalist of the Year by the Guild of Gardeners. We look forward to congratulating her in person on the 22 February.
The talk will take place at 12 noon. Free tickets can be obtained in the entrance hall. In the event of a full house there will be a repeat at 2.00 pm.
There is a plant fair as part of the Snowdrop and Hellebore Extravaganza. Specialist nurseries will be selling unusual varieties of both snowdrops and hellebores as well as many other spring bulbs, shrubs and perennials. Full details of the Plant Fair here.
There will also be a display of early flowering bulbs and plants in the entrance area. Please bring anything that is looking good and help to make this something really special. An added bonus is that anyone bringing exhibits before 10.30am will be admitted free of charge. Vases will be available.
Refreshments will be available throughout the day.
Here are some images from our Snowdrop and Hellebore Extravaganza a few years ago. The weather was glorious and the garden looked wonderful. In front of the house the structure of the parterre and the topiary really shows at this time of year. At the back of the house paths lead through the arboretum and woodland gardens where trees and beautifully scented winter-flowering shrubs are under-planted with bulbs including great drifts of snowdrops. The nursery stalls are arranged behind the house overlooking the lawn and steps up to the gardens.
