Woodland Gems

Andrew Ward
Headcorn Village Hall, Headcorn TN27 9NR
Sunday 26 April 2015, 2.30pm

Members’ lecture meeting. Guests are welcome to attend up to two meetings before becoming members.

Norwell Nurseries is a small nursery specializing in choice and unusual herbaceous perennials and alpines. The nursery is based around a one-acre plantsman’s garden that holds over 2000 different species. The garden is the backbone of the nursery, the owners being first and foremost gardeners – plantspeople who love creating beautiful scenes with flowers. Andrew will be bringing plants to sell. Visit the website.

Followed by Seedling Swap
Our annual Seedling Swap has been a fixed event in our calendar for several years now and is eagerly awaited by many. It is a practical and fun way of sharing excess seedlings with other members and we really want to encourage everyone to take part by growing some seeds. If you haven’t participated before, here’s the lowdown on how it works:

  • Sow your seeds in the normal way, and when you have pricked out what you need, bring any surplus seedlings to the meeting with a clear label.
  • Help yourself to empty plastic cups, select the seedlings you fancy, and using the available knives, forks and spoons, carefully lift seedlings out of their containers, and into their temporary new home and label.
  • We will supply plastic cups, spare compost, blank labels and pencils. There will be a small charge of just 10p per forkful to cover costs, with any surplus going to Kent Group funds.

As usual at our lecture meetings there will also be:      Plant display – Plant sale – Seed exchange – Book sale – Raffle – Teas
