Spring-Flowering Perennials

Rosy Hardy
Headcorn Village Hall, Headcorn TN27 9NR
Sunday 24 April 2016, 2.30pm

Members’ lecture meeting. Guests are welcome to attend up to two meetings before becoming members.

Rosy Hardy is well known as an authority on herbaceous perennials and is a member of the RHS Herbaceous Committee. In 1988 she and her husband Rob founded Hardy’s Cottage Garden Plants in Hampshire, and they have bred and introduced many new perennial varieties, and won 20 Gold Medals at Chelsea. Rosy’s taste in plants is reflected throughout the nursery, which is stocked with 1400 varieties, all of which have to earn their place. She will be bringing plants for sale and will be happy to bring any plant orders to the meeting.

Followed by Seedling Swap
Our annual Seedling Swap has been a fixed event in our calendar for several years now and is eagerly awaited by many. It is a practical and fun way of sharing excess seedlings with other members and we really want to encourage everyone to take part by growing some seeds. If you haven’t participated before, here’s the lowdown on how it works:

  • Sow your seeds in the normal way, and when you have pricked out what you need, bring any surplus seedlings to the meeting with a clear label.
  • Help yourself to empty plastic cups, select the seedlings you fancy, and using the available knives, forks and spoons, carefully lift seedlings out of their containers, and into their temporary new home and label.
  • We will supply plastic cups, spare compost, blank labels and pencils. There will be a small charge of just 10p per forkful to cover costs, with any surplus going to Kent Group funds.

As usual at our lecture meetings there will also be:      Plant display – Plant sale – Seed exchange – Book sale – Raffle – Teas
