Saturday 19 September 2015, from 11.00am
Please note this meeting is on a Saturday
As in 2014 our Autumn Plant Fair will be combined with our September members’ meeting. Many gardeners regard autumn as the start of the gardening year – a time to take stock, look back over the summer and make plans for the coming year. So, what better can you do but attend our Autumn Event to get some new plants to compliment the bulbs you’re planning to set out, gain inspiration from our exciting speaker, seeing what other people are growing and chatting to like-minded fellow members. We look forward to seeing you there.
Indoor Plant Fair 11.00am to 1.30pm The Plant Fair is open to the public with an admission of £2.
With autumn being the perfect time for planting new treasures there will be a varied selection of nurseries plying their wares. There will also be an HPS stall where members bring plants from their own collections. Here you can be sure to find something out of the ordinary to try in your own garden. Details
‘Autumn, The Most Rewarding Season’ a talk by by Ben Potterton at 2.00pm
Guests are welcome to attend up to two members’ lecture meetings before becoming members.
Ben Potterton, the enthusiastic owner of Blacksmiths Cottage Nursery in rural south Norfolk, has a lifelong interest in plants. He has a large collection of sanguisorbas and raises more than 2000 varieties of plants on site, where the nursery and gardens are run alongside his passion for animal conservation. A visit to the nursery is a fascinating experience as those on the garden tour of Norfolk last year can confirm. Ben will be attending the plant fair in the morning and will have some of his rarer plants for sale. Find out more about his nursery and wildlife gardens.
Members will be staging a display of some of the plants from their own gardens showing the huge variety that can be grown at this time of year.
These will be available throughout the day: morning coffee, a variety of home-made soups with bread at lunchtime, and tea and cakes will be waiting for you after the talk.
As usual at our lecture meetings there will also be: Seed exchange – Book sale – Raffle
