Clematis armandii

Did you know that the very best time to prune Clematis armandii is immediately after flowering?

Have you been seduced by Clematis armandii with its wonderful perfume and beautiful white flowers so early in the year, only to be bewildered by its prodigious rate of growth? To keep it within bounds and encourage attractive new growth, which will flower next spring, prune it immediately after flowering, removing dead or damaged stems and cutting back the rest to their allotted space making sure to keep to green wood.

This advice comes from a very good source. Everett Leeds, a founder member of The British Clematis Society, gave a talk to Kent Group on herbaceous clematis but during question time the discussion widened to cover other types and this nuggett of information was passed on.
